Here is the Best 2 Weeks Thailand Itinerary.
Deciding Your Travel Time
There’s really no bad time to soak up the exotic charm of Thailand. But, understanding the timing of your travel will give you a taste of Thailand beyond its regular allure.
So, when should you mark your calendars to experience this Asian paradise?
Thailand’s weather is typically divided into three distinct phases: cool (November to February), hot (March to June), and the rainy season (July to October).
While deciding “when” to experience Thailand matters, it still boils down to your personal interests.
If you’re a sun seeker, March to June will be your tropical haven. But if you’re more keen on cooler weather to tour around, November to February would be your ideal choice.
The rainy season also has it’s unique charm. There are fewer tourists, the prices are cheaper, and everything is green and vibrant.
It’s worth noting major Thai festivals as well. Songkran, or Thai New Year, in April, is marked by a nationwide water fight – a unique way to experience the local culture!
Loi Krathong in November, where thousands of lanterns float in the sky and water, is an enchanting sight not to be missed.
Here is a helpful article that will help you decide when to travel: Best Thailand Travel Tips.

Day 1: Arriving in Bangkok
Bright lights, bustling streets, and a rush of adrenaline – welcome to the first day of your Thai adventure in the city of contrasts, Bangkok!
You have arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport; let the journey begin.
For cost-effective transportation, take a train from Suvarnabhumi to the city center, or one of the local cabs.
You should stay in the Sukhumvit area, close to everything. A great hotel recommendation is the Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit.
On day 1, you will be tired and jet-lagged, so take some time for rest and relaxation. Get some good food and a quick power nap.
As night falls, nothing rings in Thailand like street food. Spoil your taste buds at a local market or at Khaosan Road.
Relish your first pad thai or fried rice, along with a signature Thai beer, to mark day one.
To navigate this dynamic city, ride the BTS Skytrain or pick a colorful tuk-tuk ride for shorter distances.
Arm yourself with Google Maps, a handy translation app, and step into the colorful pavilions of Bangkok with an explorer’s zeal.
Diving into Bangkok’s energetic atmosphere might be a sensory overload, but approaching it with an open mind and going at your own pace is the key to enjoying the city.

You can’t leave without beholding the magnificence of the Grand Palace, basking in the glow of Wat Arun during sunset, or witnessing Wat Pho, home of the glorious reclining Buddha.

Day 3: Fly to Koh Samui
Our next stop is Koh Samui, a captivating island that promises an unforgettable tropical adventure, and one of my favorite places in Thailand.
Koh Samui is easy to get to with direct flights from Bangkok on Bangkok Airways (it’s the only airline that flies to the island).
Once you’ve stepped foot on the island, you can take a cab or ask your hotel to organize the airport transfer for you.
In Koh Samui, you’ll find accommodations that cater to every budget:
- Try the W Samui, and the Four Seasons for luxury travel.
- Lanna Samui offers amazing mid-range prices in a great area.
- For low-cost accommodations, try HostelWorld.
Since we are going to spend two days in Koh Samui, you can relax for the rest of the day, get a drink by the pool, or lounge on the beach.
A great spot for sunset is the Air Bar Samui at the Intercontinental. Grab a drink and watch the sun fade away.
Day 4: Exploring Koh Samui
Get ready for a tropical treat! On Day 4 of your Thailand itinerary, we’ll be exploring the stunning island paradise of Koh Samui.
Start your day diving into the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island – there’s a whole world under the waves waiting to be explored.
Koh Samui offers some of the best snorkeling and diving facilities in Thailand, with vibrant coral reefs and a dazzling array of marine life.
Next, let’s explore the grandeur of the Big Buddha Temple or gasp in awe of the intriguing Hin Ta and Hin Yai rock formations.
For those wanting to venture off the beaten path, consider exploring the Secret Buddha Garden, an enchanting park filled with mystic sculptures, hidden amidst the dense jungle.
And what about a dash of Thai culinary adventure? Take a local Thai cooking class and learn how to recreate those exotic flavors back home.
On the gastronomical front, Koh Samui does not disappoint. Beach-side restaurants like Your Place offer scrumptious local seafood, while street food stalls serve up a variety of delicious Thai dishes.

Land in Bangkok, check-in, explore the city, and try to get over the jet lag.
Day 3: Fly to Chiang Mai
Now, it’s time to say goodbye to bustling Bangkok, as Day 3 of our thrilling itinerary gears up for the cultural city of Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.
With several transportation options available, I recommend an early morning flight out of Bangkok. The journey is barely an hour and a half, meaning you touch down in Chiang Mai just in time to seize the day!
Grab (the Uber of Asia) is very affordable, so I suggest using it to get to your hotel and drop off your bags.
Chiang Mai’s accommodations range from boutique hotels to budget-friendly guesthouses. A great recommendation is the U Nimman Chiang Mai, which delivers a perfect blend of style and comfort.
Getting around Chiang Mai is easy:
- You can rent a scooter for 200-300 baht per day ($5-8)
- Use the local red trucks (song-tews) for about 30 baht ($0.80) per person
- Negotiate a ride on a local Tuk-Tuk
- Use ride-sharing apps like Grab, Bolt or InDrive.
Our first port of call in this historic gem is the Old City, a treasure trove of majestic temples, restaurants, and old defense gates.

After a day of exploration, tuck into delicious northern Thai cuisine at local restaurants or street food stalls.

This action-packed day in Chiang Mai sets the pace for what’s to come in this beast of a two-week Thailand itinerary.
Day 4: Explore Chiang Mai
On the fourth day of your epic Thai adventure, you’ll dive headfirst into the rich culture and stunning beauty of Chiang Mai.
Since we have a full day ahead of us, I highly recommend visiting an Elephant sanctuary.
I recommend the Elephant Nature Park; it offers an unforgettable experience for every traveler. The park’s mission centers around rescuing and rehabilitating elephants, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to interact with these majestic creatures.
Forget about elephant riding or watching these animals perform tricks; Elephant Nature Park focuses on ethical treatment, allowing them to roam freely within their natural habitat.
Activities during your visit include feeding the elephants, watching them play, or taking a mud bath with them.
It’s not just a day out, but an educational insight into the lives of elephants and the challenges they face due to unethical practices in the tourism industry.
In the evening, take your taste buds on a tantalizing Thai journey along the lively lanes of Nimmanhaemin or Tha Pae Walking Street, brimming with inviting food stalls offering local delicacies.

Its cool climate and unsurpassed biodiversity are best explored through treks along the lush trails leading to the Twin Pagodas, a symbol of Thai architecture nestled amidst the clouds.
En route, there are stunning waterfalls like Wachirathan and Mae Klang, simply perfect for those Instagram-worthy snaps.
Remember to pack appropriate footwear and insect repellant to make your Hiking experience comfortable. If visiting in the winter months, you should also pack a sweater, it gets quite cold at the top.

Prepare to immerse in the raw beauty of nature.
Here is a complete list of Amazing Things to do in Chiang Mai.
Day 6: Minivan to Chiang Rai
Get ready for an early start on Day 6! You’ll embark on a mountainous journey from Chiang Mai to the serene city of Chiang Rai.
My recommendation for transport? A comfy minivan! This is the best option due to its convenience, affording you time to relax – or even catch some extra zzz’s since you’ve been exploring all day yesterday.
Plus, it’s much faster than your traditional bus, taking only around 4 hours depending on traffic.
Upon reaching Chiang Rai, check-in, drop off your bags, and take some time to unwind before diving into the vibrant local culture.
Chiang Rai offers a range of accommodations to suit every budget, from boutique hotels to economical guesthouses.
We will spend two days in Chiang Rai, so start by visiting the iconic Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Ten. Painted in lively shades of blue, it houses an expansive Buddha, making it an absolute must-see.

Next, we will make our way to the small town of Doi Tung. The charm and serene beauty of northern Thailand make Doi Tung a must-visit.
If you opt to pay for a full pass at 220 Baht ($6.50), you’ll gain access to all enchanting attractions within the vicinity, like Doi Tung Royal Villa and the Hall of Inspiration.

With a travel time of about two hours, options for transportation range from a comfortable minivan service, private taxi, or riding your scooter back down.
End your Northern Thailand adventure by immersing yourself in the local culture by seeing a Muay Thai fight.
Then don’t miss out on a traditional Thai cooking class, an absolutely fun-filled way to wrap up your sojourn in Chiang Mai!
If you are looking for some adrenaline, an ATV trip around the northern mountains will surely put a smile on your face.
For your next step, you can fly back to Bangkok the next day, or catch a night train or bus – which is roughly an 8-hour journey. You can save the cost of a hotel night and experience the local way to travel.
Safe travels, and soak in all the wonderful memories you’ve gathered on this Thailand adventure.
Day 13: Back to Bangkok
Once you are back in Bangkok, make the most of your remaining time by diving into the alluring local culture, chaos, and color.
Discover the rich history, fascinating architecture, and iconic buildings of Ayutthaya, an ancient royal capital.
I booked a full-day tour of the UNESCO-listed former capital of Ayutthaya that included food and transport:
- Visit the former royal residence at Bang Pa-In Palace,
- Marvel at the Wat Mahathat and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet temples,
- and cruise the waters of Chao Phraya River while enjoying a delicious lunch.
You can also opt to visit one of Bangkok’s rooftop bars, such as Vertigo – Banyan Tree Bangkok, or the Sky Bar – lebua at State Tower.
Another fun and adrenaline-pumping activity is walking on the glass SkyWalk at the King Power Mahanakhon building, the tallest in Bangkok.
Day 14: Return Home
And finally, it’s day 14 of your Amazing journey around the North of Thailand. And what a journey it has been!
If your flight is later in the afternoon, spend your last remaining house exploring Bangkok, or just relaxing by the hotel pool.
I hope you enjoyed your journey around the north and will come back for more.

What are the Best Times to Visit Thailand?
Thailand has a year-round tropical climate but experiences three prominent seasons – cool, hot, and rainy. Let’s break down each season’s vibe, shall we?
The cool season (November to February) is ideal. It typically provides pleasant, warm weather and clear skies, making it prime time for exploring and beach bumming.
A cultural bonus – you can experience the beautiful Loi Krathong festival in Northern Thailand in November.
However, it’s also the peak tourist season, so be prepared for crowds and slightly steeper prices.
Pro tip: Book ahead, especially during the festive December and January period!
The hot season (March to May) comes next. While sightseeing can be a scorcher, it’s perfect for those wanting to lounge on the beaches.
Don’t forget to join the fun of Songkran, the Thai New Year in April – ensure you book everything well in advance!
Avoid the north of Thailand During March and April due to the burning season when the air quality is very bad.
The rainy season (June to October) offers its own charm. Short afternoon showers bring refreshing breaks from the heat.
However, coasts like Phuket and Andaman get the bulk of the rain in September and October, while Koh Samui and the Gulf of Thailand see heavy showers from November to December.
So, when you should visit really depends on what you seek from your Thai experience.
Regardless of your choice, remember to pack accordingly. Carry sunscreen and stay hydrated during the hot season, and don’t forget your raincoat during the rainy season.
Is it Safe to Rent a Scooter in Thailand?
You’ve thought about doing it – that dream of hopping on a scooter and zooming off to explore Thailand on your own terms. But hold up! Is it safe to rent a scooter in Thailand? Let me demystify it for you.
- Renting a scooter in Thailand can be as safe as in any other part of the world, as long as you ride responsibly.
- Having a valid international driver’s license and a motorcycle license from your home country is a must.
- This not only keeps you lawful but also ensures a basic level of riding skills.
- Familiarizing yourself with local traffic rules and conditions is essential. Thai traffic can look chaotic, but there’s an order to the madness.
- Like any place, wear a helmet at all times, it saves lives. Mind you, defensive driving is the mantra, anticipate other drivers’ actions and err on the side of caution.
- Try avoiding riding at night or in unfavorable weather conditions, as they significantly increase risk.
Scooter rentals are widely available, costing typically around $7-10/day. Before you set wheels on the road, introspect if you’re confident riding, especially under varying conditions.
If you’re a novice or shaky about riding, consider safer transportation options like hiring a driver or using local public transportation.
Just remember, your safety is paramount. Happy riding!
